Koh Phangan

Arrival & Exploration of Koh Phangan

And then there was the last island to visit :)

The full moon party island..!! Way better landscape than Koh Samui…way bigger than Koh Tao…

“Ko Pha Ngan (or Koh Phangan) is an island in the Gulf of Thailand in southeast Thailand in Surat Thani Province. It is part of the Samui Archipelago. It is famous for its full moon party at Haad Rin Beach and as a backpacker destination. Ko Pha Ngan has two sister islands: the larger Ko Samui to the south and the smaller Ko Tao to the north.”

Estimated perimeter: 40 km
From mainland: about 55 km
From Ko Samui: about 15 km
From Ko Tao: about 35 km
Main town: Thong Sala
Highest Point: Khao Ra, 630 m

First it starts with the short Ferry ride from Koh Tao to Koh Phangan…

First incident on the boat…I fell asleep and got a severe sunburn all over my face…

IMG_6008 IMG_6013 IMG_6014

So I am in the right place…

After arriving I immediately went to the full moon beach…

The beach is definitely nicer than expected :)

IMG_6054 IMG_6052 IMG_6050 IMG_6049 IMG_6040 IMG_6036

such a severe sunburn :P :P :P

IMG_6033 IMG_6030IMG_6026 IMG_6019

After the full moon beach I got to the other side of the Island, to the so called Sunset Beach….that beach was sooo amazing…

but to get there I had to cross some boardwalks that were not in their best shape..

IMG_6066 IMG_6071 IMG_6067

just down the road and then I might be there…IMG_6091 IMG_6107 IMG_6097

and there it is … Sunset Beach :)

almost no people and best sand in Thailand

IMG_6110 IMG_6115 IMG_6114

This is by far the best place I have seen in Thailand…

IMG_6178 IMG_6127 IMG_6205 IMG_6222

beautiful nature, sand and awesome boardwalk on this site of the island…best place for meditation I guess..

IMG_6227 IMG_6244 IMG_6261 IMG_6279 IMG_6273

this is btw, the beach I ended up running in the evening :)

and when you go to the far end of the boardwalk you will come here..

now the category me as the:

soooo back to the beach and try to find a nearby view point over the area..

IMG_6357 IMG_6372 IMG_6380 IMG_6397

a little bit hiking and avoiding the killer animals..

IMG_6412 IMG_6414IMG_6401

I eventually got up here…

IMG_6424 IMG_6421 IMG_6419 IMG_6417 IMG_6416

since I had to fight me a way through the jungle…and 10000 mosquitoes bit me, it was time to get a shower…/ Swim

IMG_6430 IMG_6437 IMG_6451

at the beach I found some guy who just completed his training for the upcoming full moon party…

without bothering him too much…I went to the peer..

awesome place for doing sunset shots…

but after the sunset shot it happened…my camera broke!!!

The shutter button does not work anymore…So from now on there will only be cellphone and underwater cam pics…FUCK IT! and Canon refuses to repair electronics abroad :/

STA_6505 IMG_6517 IMG_6511 IMG_6509 IMG_6504 IMG_6495

bye bye high quality pics…

next up…hiking the island..

Koh Tao

The Sunset – Koh Tao

For more romantic flair here are some pics of Koh Tao during the Sunset…the Sunset is coming soon…IMG_5904 IMG_5903

The sunset is coming slowly…

IMG_5994 IMG_5990 IMG_5982 IMG_5978

Here is the beauty of the Thai Island….

IMG_5888 IMG_5887 IMG_5885

Amazing….and still so warm outside :)

Balancing the sun on my shoulder was obviously the hardest part :)IMG_5958 IMG_5947 IMG_5910 IMG_5936 IMG_5906 IMG_5916 IMG_5963

next up…leaving to Koh Phangan

Koh Tao

South of Koh Tao

Next day next adventure…

Walking down South about 10km to a beach area for a little swim with the camera…this time I only brought my contour…So the quality might be a little bit away from what you are used to…Especially the weird wide angle give it a new touch…

after arriving at the beach I headed straight into the water…

DCIM100MEDIA DCIM100MEDIA DCIM100MEDIAsince I had no goggles with me I decided to go further north to climb a view point..first along the coastline and then right into the island..

more hiking required for the view point..

and there it is…the top south spot of Koh Tao..

next up…Koh Phangan..

Who cares

The Mountain Hike – Koh Tao

With a slight hangover I decided to climb the highest point on Koh Tao…Many other tourists overtook me with their scooters to get to a bar somewhere on the mountain. However, the fun part always starts when you go off track and discover the jungle by yourself…

IMG_5615 IMG_5628 IMG_5627 IMG_5626 IMG_5624 IMG_5623 IMG_5622 IMG_5620 IMG_5618

There is the bar where anybody stopped and the actual path ended..

Now lets get off the normal track…So many spiders and rarely used tracks are so much more exciting than these shitty touristy routes

IMG_5629 IMG_5633 IMG_5632 IMG_5631 IMG_5630

Lets get the adventure going…sometimes it was quite hard to make myself a way trough the dense vegetation…

IMG_5635 IMG_5674 IMG_5670 IMG_5699

but look at the nature …so much rewarding..huge banana tree leafs…

IMG_5822 IMG_5694 IMG_5678 IMG_5677

and especially since there was no other human being..it made the jungle so quiet…one could only hear the animals and birds…

IMG_5668 IMG_5704 IMG_5742 IMG_5810 IMG_5756

nature all over the place…

IMG_5805 IMG_5787 IMG_5768 IMG_5739 IMG_5752 IMG_5709 IMG_5700

and then suddenly a shelter in the middle of nowhere..

looked like that nobody had been here for weeks…

but I eventually made it back to civilization since the island is so small…you gonna end up on a road at some point

IMG_5834 IMG_5838 IMG_5836 IMG_5841

time to spend on the beach…tired but a great day..

IMG_5850 IMG_5855 IMG_5857 IMG_5861 IMG_5863 IMG_5876

next up…exploration of the south part of the island..

Koh Tao

Leaving Koh Samui – Arrival on Koh Tao

Leaving Koh Samui…

IMG_5325 IMG_5327 IMG_5326

Finally I got away from that touristy island and headed north towards the diving islands Koh Tao…

“Ko Tao (also often Koh Tao,  “Turtle Island”) is an island in Thailand and forms part of the Chumphon Archipelago on the western shore of the Gulf of Thailand. It covers an area of about 21 km². Administratively it forms a tambon within the district (amphoe) Ko Pha Ngan of Surat Thani Province. As of 2006 its official population was 1,382.The main settlement is Ban Mae Hat.

The economy of the island is almost exclusively centred on tourism, especially scuba diving.

Ko Tao was named by its first settlers after the island’s turtle-like shape. Coincidentally, the island is an important breeding ground for hawksbill and green turtles. Development of tourism has negatively impacted the health of these grounds but a breeding programme organised in 2004 by the Royal Thai Navy and KT-DOC, a coalition of local scuba diving centres, has reintroduced hundreds of juvenile turtles to the island’s ecosystem.”

The ferry ride took 1.5 hours…

IMG_5329 IMG_5333 IMG_5330

Finally arriving at Koh Tao..

IMG_5335 IMG_5337 IMG_5336

it was already quite late…and the sunset was coming soon..

IMG_5340 IMG_5343 IMG_5342

some time left to discover the beach area..

best opportunity for long time exposure shots…

IMG_5344 IMG_5375IMG_5371 IMG_5368 IMG_5366 IMG_5364IMG_5362 IMG_5352 IMG_5348 IMG_5347 IMG_5345

found the cat…

It got dark really quickly..

IMG_5390 IMG_5414 IMG_5400 IMG_5395 IMG_5391

good night Koh Tao…

next up…more of the island..
