Waterfall Koh Samui

Next day next scooter ride…

This time my friend from Singapore came over to explore the island with me …The scooter itself was slow, scratched and out of petrol when we got it..

Nevertheless we were lucky with the weather…First stop on the way to the waterfalls was the coastline..

IMG_5082IMG_5089 IMG_5087 IMG_5084 IMG_5083

Second stop was a small waterfall in the middle of the island..

IMG_5120 IMG_5118 IMG_5117 IMG_5111

Koh Samui has one of the longest waterfalls I have ever seen in my life..

IMG_5147 IMG_5156

Combind with a great view…we were climbing the waterfall for hours..

IMG_5132 IMG_5134 IMG_5151

there were so many natural pools on our way up…the water was not that clear, but it absolutely fun to swim in them..

IMG_5169 IMG_5177IMG_5201 IMG_5205

on the way up we saw the biggest spider ever on earth…massive thing…bigger than a cat..

IMG_5287 IMG_5281 IMG_5279

more climbing…

IMG_5244 IMG_5247 IMG_5257 IMG_5252 IMG_5265 IMG_5271 IMG_5292 IMG_5294

it was almost dark when we turned around and got back home…

IMG_5321 IMG_5320 IMG_5318 IMG_5315 IMG_5302

next up Koh Tao….

Koh Samui

Island by foot – Koh Samui

next sunny day…And I decided to explore the northern part of the island by foot..

Therefore I had to walk 10km north…close to the airport…

My goal of the day was to find the big buddha..yes another one and then get a good view on one of the mountains…

IMG_4834 IMG_4835 IMG_4837 IMG_4840

on my way I walked past the airport and was able to take some pictures…however it is forbidden to taker pictures of the airport…

IMG_4854 IMG_4853 IMG_4855 IMG_4856

besides the runway…there was not much to see..so I continued my walk further north…it was boiling hot…bloody hell

IMG_4861 IMG_4848 IMG_4845

the coconut trees are just amazing..IMG_4863 IMG_4865 IMG_4868

finally I reached the area with the big buddha..it was located on some kind of an island…right at the coastline..

IMG_4870 IMG_4873 IMG_4876 IMG_4877

IMG_4910 IMG_4917 IMG_4943

and here he is my buddha buddy…

after fighting against aliens and predators…I went on to the hill

many sea sculptures were on my way to the hill…

IMG_4985 IMG_4978 IMG_4974

the way to the top of the hill was really steep…I like it..

IMG_5011 IMG_5017 IMG_5020

the view was just epic…

IMG_5036 IMG_5026

on my way back home…I walked past some tremendous resorts at the beach…

IMG_5042 IMG_5048 IMG_5047 IMG_5046 IMG_5043

other findings on my walk today…

IMG_5066 IMG_5065

next up the waterfalls…

The Hill Temple

First thing to do in Koh Samui is exploring the area around my hostel that is located on the far East side of the island…

Google maps revealed that there is a small Lake nearby so I went running there… On my run I saw a minor Hill nearby with some temple on top..

So next plan.. Running back home and going back with my camera to the temple..

IMG_4706 IMG_4708 IMG_4707

After reaching the temple I had a nice view on the lake and on the tiny airport on the other side..

IMG_4723 IMG_4735 IMG_4727 IMG_4737

The Temple itself was guarded by crazy animals..

IMG_4718 IMG_4717 IMG_4732

So after overcoming my predators..I reached the temple..

IMG_4721 IMG_4747IMG_4771

it was nice but nothing to fancy…some tiny sculptures were also around

IMG_4810 IMG_4784 IMG_4787

but the sincere was beautiful..

IMG_4788 IMG_4807 IMG_4796 IMG_4817

to close the day…some impression of the evening…

IMG_4827IMG_4826 IMG_4824 IMG_4823 IMG_4822

next up…another Buddha

Bye Krabi

Leaving Krabi to Koh Samui

After relaxing 4 days I left Krabi towards Koh Samui… The biggest Island in the Gulf of Thailand.. Since the island has its own airport many tourists come here every year…

“Koh Samui is an island off the east coast of the Kra Isthmus, Thailand. Geographically in the Chumphon Archipelago, it is administratively part of Surat Thani Province. Koh Samui is Thailand’s second-largest island after Phuket, with an area of 228.7 km2, a population of over 63,000 and an annual tourist population of 1.5 million. Abundant tourist resources, white sandy beaches, coral reefs, and coconut trees are present on the island.”

But at first I was drop of in a city near the coast to take a ferry to Koh Samui..

IMG_4671 IMG_4670 IMG_4669 IMG_4668 IMG_4667

There was also a small market nearby…

Lets take the ferry…

IMG_4682 IMG_4678 IMG_4677

When the ferry dropped me at the beach.. I had to take a taxi (motorcycle) that brought me to the other side of the island.. Unfortunately it started raining so that we had to stop by a seven eleven to wait until the rain stops…

I bought me an umbrella to protect me even a little bit against the heavy rain on the motorbike…

What did I do on the island besides lying on the beach and going for a run…

1) going to the big Buddha in the north of the island
2) enjoying a great view over the landscape
3) going to a temple on a small gill
4) discovering natural pool and waterfall via scooter

at night Koh Samui is different…but still touristy and already Christmas…

IMG_4690 IMG_4698 IMG_4696 IMG_4693

look at the German luxury products…absolutely incredible..IMG_4703 IMG_4702whatever “Cheers” is…

next up the big Buddha…

Relaxing in Krabi

I need a more quite day after the crazy hike rain running yesterday…

After a crab fight in the morning I rented a scooter to drive to the beach.

IMG_4485 IMG_4498

Outcome: Chris vs. Crab 3:2   WINNER!!

IMG_4650 IMG_4649

So let’s drive…20km to the beach

IMG_4651 IMG_4654 IMG_4652

Not the best weather though…but I kept going…

Final parking lot…was actually really hard to find since there were so many people and scooters…took me 10min to reserve a spot

and now it is time for walking / hiking again to get away from all these tourists…

IMG_4537 IMG_4541 IMG_4540 IMG_4539 IMG_4538

there is a small mountain in the back…lets get over it and see whether there are less tourists…ready…? GO GO GO

IMG_4553 IMG_4550IMG_4549 IMG_4548

I ended up on this beach… with a small resort and monkeysIMG_4623 IMG_4620 IMG_4614 IMG_4613

and a peer with an amazing lime stone in the water… IMG_4605 strong as a rock knock knock knock knoch IMG_4600

The peer…IMG_4583IMG_4578

I sleep for an hour on the beach…who would’t do that… IMG_4572 IMG_4570 IMG_4566

On my way back I spent some time on the nearby market

sooooo back home :)

next up…leaving Krabi to Koh Samui

Krabi – Tiger Caves

Spending a couple of days in Phuket is definitely enough…

So I headed for a more quite place.. However, I had no idea what to do in krabi…
After checking the Internet I figured out that there are supposed to be two major sights…
1) tiger caves and a big Buddha on top of a mountain.. Climbing over 1200 stairs to reach it..
2) railey beach.. In the south of krabi

So time to grab some coffee and off to go to the caves…

IMG_4172 IMG_4175 IMG_4173

Tiger caves:
The plan… Try to find it without public transport… The caves are supposed to be about 10km away from my hostel…After walking in the sun for about an hour I had to find out that the way that I went at some point was a dead end.. Memories of Mount rinjani came up..

IMG_4184 IMG_4183 IMG_4181 IMG_4185

So 2.5km back to get to the main street and keep on walking towards the mountain area.

IMG_4188 IMG_4186 IMG_4192 IMG_4193

on the way I found new friends…

IMG_4197 IMG_4179IMG_4244 IMG_4384

Finally I found it…

IMG_4206 IMG_4210 IMG_4209
The Tiger caves itself are not that spectacular as a sight, nevertheless it was quite crowded since that cave is a holy place for the monks and other religious people.

IMG_4211 IMG_4220IMG_4218 IMG_4217 IMG_4214 IMG_4213 IMG_4212

Fun fact the Tiger caves are named after a tiger that has never been seen by anyone..

IMG_4221IMG_4237 IMG_4228 IMG_4222

But the stairs to the top of the mountain were way more spectacular.. However, I had to overtake so many people on the way up and down… Backpackers, tourist or local… All are so unfit.. There are exceptions but this rarely happens…

IMG_4238 IMG_4240 IMG_4241IMG_4257IMG_4268

The view was worth the 10min ‘hiking’ on top of the mountain..

IMG_4271 IMG_4282 IMG_4278 IMG_4276 IMG_4273

And of course the golden buddha :)

IMG_4293 IMG_4316 IMG_4319IMG_4372 IMG_4375 IMG_4371

back to the view….

IMG_4295 IMG_4300 IMG_4304 IMG_4312 IMG_4313IMG_4356 IMG_4355 IMG_4352       IMG_4338 After the mountain top I went down to a nearby forest with some minor attractions.. In particular the actual caves..

IMG_4403 IMG_4412 IMG_4411 IMG_4405

how to solve electricity problems in asia..

and now in the actual cave…

IMG_4460 IMG_4449 IMG_4454 IMG_4453 IMG_4452 IMG_4447 IMG_4444 IMG_4442 IMG_4429 IMG_4415

I spend there about 30min when it suddenly started to rain…
So two options:
1) taking a taxi back home
2) running back home

There it comes to mind over matter…Getting out of the forest was the first step..

IMG_4480 IMG_4478 IMG_4476 IMG_4474 IMG_4472 IMG_4471 IMG_4470 IMG_4464

I ran back in the heaviest rain I have experienced so far in Asia. About 10k with a backpack is quite a different running experience…

I was just soooo wet..

next up…the beach experience in Krabi

Exploring Phuket

The Loooong day in Phuket…

Phuket, is one of the southern provinces of Thailand. Neighbouring provinces are (from north clockwise) Phang Nga and Krabi, but as Phuket is an island it has no land boundaries.

Phuket, which is somewhat smaller than the size of Singapore, is Thailand’s largest island. The island is connected to mainland Thailand by two bridges. It is situated off the west coast of Thailand in the Andaman Sea. Phuket formerly derived its wealth from tin and rubber, and enjoys a rich and colorful history. The island was on one of the major trading routes between India and China, and was frequently mentioned in foreign ship logs of Portuguese, French, Dutch and English traders. The region now derives much of its income from tourism.

My plan was to rent a scooter and explore the island as usual by myself. After finding a place that rents out scooters, they gave me a shitty old one. I drove about 1km than I returned it because not even the petrol meter worked…So i got another one (only little better) and the journey began…

IMG_3666 IMG_3665IMG_3672 IMG_3670

First stop on my hot scooter was a view point down in the south on the way to the big buddha…

IMG_3661 IMG_3657

Keep on moving down south…where is the buddha?

IMG_3675 IMG_3679 IMG_3678 IMG_3677 IMG_3676

Ok I found the entrance to the mountain…and on the way there was not only a great view but lots and lots of elephant trekking companies..

IMG_3709 IMG_3704 IMG_3694 IMG_3716

Kind of sad that mostly all elephants are chained and cannot walk anywhere..

The view was amazing and the weather was great and I could spot the big buddha not that far ahead of me…

IMG_3765 IMG_3755 IMG_3761

No seriously the weather was great when I was driving on the mountain..

IMG_3776IMG_3773 IMG_3751

And I found the Buddha, obviously

IMG_3779 IMG_3852 IMG_3850 IMG_3848IMG_3832IMG_3805 IMG_3798

And then I found his tiny golden brother..

IMG_3876 IMG_3882 IMG_3889

Have I mentioned that the view was soooo good

IMG_3859 IMG_3865IMG_3892

back down…I headed for the South edge of Phuket..one can clearly see that this is a less touristy area..IMG_3894 IMG_3908 IMG_3906 IMG_3895

Especially when you go away from the streets…it was a little bit fucked up..with pigs and garbage everywhere..

IMG_3928IMG_3914 IMG_3917

Nevertheless, I tried to make the best out of it..climbing the rocks at the coastline..

IMG_3924 IMG_3922 IMG_3919 IMG_3918 IMG_3931 IMG_3934 IMG_3936

There I found dead corrals and some big snail houses…at least the leftover of both :P Look at the size of the snail house…BIG!!

IMG_3954 IMG_3950 IMG_3949

Time to explore the fish market near the sea…

There were also so many shops selling snail houses and different sort of shells..btw, it is never allowed to take photos at those places…Even not at the market…So I had to hide my camera all the time and take quick shots trusting in the auto focus and a fast shutter speed…

IMG_3981 IMG_3986 IMG_3985 IMG_3983 IMG_3982

Last stop of the day before the drastic weather change of the cliff on the south coast…and then the weather changed to quickly..

IMG_3987 IMG_3996 IMG_4002 IMG_4008 IMG_4017 IMG_4025 IMG_4019

Like it…these signs always encourage me to run, jump and be adventures… :P

IMG_4036 IMG_4037 IMG_4059

not much more land is left here…

IMG_4042 IMG_4038IMG_4035 IMG_4034 IMG_4030 IMG_4025 IMG_4023 IMG_4020 IMG_4019IMG_4017

and then it started to rain…sooooo heavily…I had to drive home with the scooter in the worst weather ever…First I stopped at a covered bus stop for 45min…but the weather did not change to I decided to keep and driving the 20km back home…

Made it :)
