Sentosa – Singapore

Daytrip Sentosa

The daytrip statet with going to the biggest shopping mall in Singapore. Goal to finally buy a SimCard :)
Did I succeed…No I didn’t! But close to the shopping mall in the actual boardwalk to Sentosa Island…my main destination of the day.
The weather was not too bad…kinda really hot actually!

I could see Sentosa island basically from the exit of the mall…

After a little bit of walking there is a huge replica of the Merlion.
Sentosa is a different place…lots of crazy activities to do there..I finally reached the beach after walking through a weird indescribably park / art area.

And yes I found the beach :) But I had no towel with me…which did not stop me from going into the sea…

IMG_1863 IMG_1859 IMG_1858 IMG_1883 IMG_1888 IMG_1882

Kinda weird street sings on Sentosa…definitely a thing to pay attention to…to strictly behave in the right way since all the fines in Singapore are tremendous for just doing cheesy things…

IMG_1879IMG_1881 IMG_1880

On the way back I walked over the bridge and could also see the Singapore harbour…

Singapore

Singapore – The first day

Finally arrived in Singapore :)

Singapore, officially the Republic of Singapore, is a sovereign city-state and island country in Southeast Asia. It lies off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula and is 137km north of the equator. The country’s territory consists of the lozenge-shaped main island, commonly referred to as Singapore Island in English and Pulau Ujong in Malay, and more than 60 significantly smaller islets. Singapore is separated from Peninsular Malaysia by the Straits of Johor to the north, and from Indonesia’s Riau Islands by the Singapore Strait to the south. The country is highly urbanised, and little of the original vegetation remains. The country’s territory has consistently expanded through land reclamation.

Wow what an organized city…the weather is not the best, but still I went on to explore the city…Made my way to the river with the ferry wheel (the flyer) in the background…

and on the way I found the actual Singapore formula one track…

IMG_1659 IMG_1653

The actual skyline is at the bayfront station..the famous hotel, the Marina Bay Sands, and the ferry wheel are the two landmarks of the inner city center…

However, the blue sky is still missing :/

Last but not least the symbol of the Singapore..MERLION

IMG_1765

The Merlion is a traditional creature in western heraldry that depicts a monster with a lion head and a body of a fish. In Singapore, it has become a marketing icon used as a mascot and national personification of Singapore.

The merlion—a statue with the body of a fish and the head of a lion—occurs in a number of different artistic traditions. Lions with fishtails can be found on Indian murals at Ajanta and Mathura, and on Etruscan coins of the Hellenistic period. Merlions, or ‘heraldic sea-lions’, are an established element of Western heraldry, and have been used on the coat of arms of the cities of Portsmouth and Great Yarmouth in the United Kingdom; the City of Manila; and the East India Company.

The city has some art as well..
